Zimele

Started in 2006, Zimele's vision was built on one word - Zimele - which means, “to stand on one’s own two feet” in Zulu. They believe that the only way to break the cycle of poverty for the women and communities we serve is through empowerment. This is why Zimele empowers women to believe in themselves and gain the skills they need to start their own businesses, generate sustainable incomes, and support their families. This is why they empower women to address critical community needs through larger scale business and social service projects and become beacons of hope and agents of positive transformation in their communities and country.

Since the founding in 2006, Zimele has empowered over 1,200 women with the skills, resources, and support networks to build a brighter future for their families and communities. Currently, they are serving 700 women in three communities - Swayimane, Winterton, and Mtubatuba - and by 2014, they’ll be expanding into two new communities to serve a total of 1,200 women per year.
